Corrie – congratulations on having your article published!!
A couple of weeks ago I had the honor of photographing Yahaira and her beautiful family. This was a particularly special photo shoot for me because it’s filled with best friends, a loving couple and God Children. Can’t get any better than that
I’ve known Yahaira since high school – she is my best friends, best friend and her son is my best friends God Son. This pretty much means that I get to photograph her beautiful family for ever And it also means that her son, Raymond, inherited the BEST God Brother ever – Aprils 9 year old, Malacai [my God Son and the little love of my life!] So – as you can imagine – there are many, many wonderfully special pictures in this blog post! ~ enjoy. xoxo
These spontaneous and fleeting moments of laughter & flirtation are of my favorite moments ever to capture.
This beautiful family is the Watkins family. Yahaira & Raymond were blessed with one of the most handsome [and mellow!] little babies ever. They are coming up on an anniversary, and little Raymond has just turned 9 months – it was the perfect time to celebrate with a professional family portrait session!
And those other big brown, beautiful eyes? Well that little man is my God Son! He is such a wonderful big God Brother to little Raymond – it’s so neat to watch him feed, and hold and play with him with such compassion.
For anyone interested in family portraits – it is highly likely that at some point – if your children are 9 months and younger – they will be naked!!! Never again will you be able to capture those little rolls and squish tush! I. LOVE. IT. Can’tPassItUp and neither can God Mommy!
Malacai, you are the most handsome 9 year old ever and you light my world with your sweet, silly personality and your compassionate soul. Words can not express how excited I am for your future [just don't grow up too fast!] and how much I love you.
It’s not often that I get in front of the camera.. but I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to take my turn with these handsome little guys. Top left: Yahaira & April, top right: April & I, bottom left: little Raymond & I, bottom right, Malacai, little Raymond & I. Happy
Yahaira & Raymond – I am so happy for you two. May the Lord bless you and your family with a lifetime of love & happiness!
I am so excited to announce the arrival of Kaiyah Rose. Her proud parents, Jeremy & Alyssa were blessed with their healthy little angel on July 7th at 3:30pm.
Being good friends from Portland, I spent three years with these two experiencing many of my outdoor firsts: back packing trips & snow shoeing up to mountain top cabins are among my favorites! They were married in 2010 and are now embarking on their first of many ‘firsts’ as a married couple and new family. I was so excited and truly honored to be able to capture Kaiyah’s first professional newborn portraits. I can’t imagine there is any love like the love you feel for your child.
Jeremy & Alyssa,
I am so happy for you two. You deserve all of the wonderful blessings life has in store for you and you family!

This year, the 4th of July holiday came with even more reason to celebrate – Alex & Caitlyn’s wedding! Washington DC is a popular destination on the 4th of July and set a festive stage for a holiday and wedding getaway. Family and friends journeyed from all over the country and were treated with the beautiful views of Oxon Hill Manor, [a historical property in Prince George's County, Maryland] great music, tasty cocktails and array of classic Maryland seafood & desserts.
From start to finish I wanted to photograph EVERYTHING – that being said, this is definitely one of my longer blog posts Enjoy!
If I could transport the bridal sweet from Oxon Hill Manor, here to LA – I would carry it on my back for three thousand miles. In. A. HeartBeat! It was the perfect setting for Caitlyn’s beautifully elegant style. The light was a yumminess of glow all afternoon and the decor created a perfect backdrop for every picture. Caitlyn, these are by far some of my most favorite getting ready pictures – you truly look stunning!!
This handsome groom-to-be just happens to be my cousin. Alex, you look equally stunning – however I can only laugh when remembering the events that lead up to your first sight pictures. [check out the grooms prep photos in your gallery!] Friends, let’s jus say that when you get married in July on the East Coast [think 94 degrees with like 500% humidity] it’s always a great idea to bring an extra shirt & tie Cheers to Alex’s great friend who hit the store before heading over to the ceremony!
I am a huge fan of having family & friends play a large role in your wedding ceremony – so are Alex & Caitlyn. Their ceremony was sweet, heart felt and full of Seersucker Suits!! Alex’s brother Andrew officiated the wedding and created a prime opportunity for the shot below [Thanks again Andrew!] while their four nieces and nephews took the role as flower girl and ring bearer’s. Three of Caitlyn’s adorable cousins read, ‘I Like You’ by Sando Stoddard – a great read for every wedding
I am also a big fan of the bridal party [peeps] below. You all are an amazing bunch of friends and family and it was such a pleasure getting to know you!
Not only is Caitlyn beautiful but she is crafty! I was so excited to photograph all of her 4th of July holiday inspired wedding details. I love everything from the potted plant seat numbers and the framed table numbers to the polaroid picture table and goody bags for kids! Caitlyn, you definitely set the tone for a stylish 4th of July wedding!

Alex & Caitlyn, it was such an honor to photograph your wedding – thank you for inviting me to share in this wonderful time! xoxo ~ erica
Is there any better way to spend the 4th of July holiday than capturing two people completely in love and tying the knot? Nope! And when those two people are family, it’s an even happier occasion! My cousin Alex and his [oh so beautiful] wife Caitlyn were married on the 4th of July. Their wedding ceremony & reception took place just outside of National Harbor, MD at Oxon Hill Manor. Pictures of their holiday inspired wedding to come!
For now, let’s oooh and ahhh over their fun & flirty engagement pictures in and around the National Mall. I’ve been waiting for their return back from Vietnam to post these!!
The day before their wedding (and only a few hours before the rehearsal dinner!) we bopped around, in search of their favorite monuments…. and a little privacy. However, privacy in the National Mall the day before the 4th of July is not exactly what one can expect to find
This sweet series was taken just across from the National Monument. What you can’t tell, is that these are totally stollen moments captured as passer by-ers weave in and out of my frame. I’m adoring Caitlyn’s shy & bashful, flirty expressions!
As we headed to the Lincoln Memorial we were greeted with even more people hoping to For Ever be a part of their engagement pictures! Take the gentleman to their right. I have a five shot series in which he will not take his eyes off them. I’d give anything to know WHAT he is thinking! Do we need a caption contest in the comments?! We do!
But again, Caitlyn rocks the camera with her bashful flirtatiousness. This image below is by far one of my favorites!
After running into family friends, we headed over to the back side of the Lincoln Memorial. Aaaah – it’s here that we find a little privacy, a little shade, AND just a few beautiful columns to line their dance floor. Take it away Alex!
What a beautiful scene this is – per Alex’s request. So happy we stopped. No National Mall engagement session is complete without a view of the Potomac River in the background!
Ande these… the few below are, as well, among my absolute favorites. There is something about the style and the color that [for me] captures a totally dated spirit of the holiday. I just love them!
And I never post both a color & bw of a single image, but I can’t decide… I love them both. What do you think?
So mark my words [professional advice here] – Whether it’s one year before your wedding -or- one day before your wedding, every couple deserves fun & flirty engagement pictures!! When else, aside from our wedding, do we ever have our pictures taken?! And look at the pictures we were able to capture – Alex & Caitlyn completely rocked the camera!
Caitlyn, it was such a pleasure to finally meet you, I am so happy for you both!!! Thank you for inviting me to capture such a wonderful time in your lives As promised, your wedding pictures will be up later this week. So everyone, check back!

If March remains the month of photographing friends and their beautiful families, I’ll be one happy photographer! I may just have to set that month aside for portraits of friends year after year It had been quite a while since I saw Blair, a wonderful friend from my teenage years. Seeing her for the first time in so long was great. Seeing her for the first time as a mom – WOW! Blair, I couldn’t be happier for you!! You are a radiant, fun loving and warm spirited mom to such an adorably handsome little boy. You and Darren are truly blessed. It was so much fun spending the afternoon capturing these precious moments for you. I’m already looking forward to it, time & time again!
We started their family portrait session off with an intimate, casual feel in the bedroom of my home studio. The soft light the afternoon is perfect for capturing the black & whites that Darren is so fond of, as well as Tristans melt-my-heart-flirtatious googly eyes.
Blair is playing peek-a-boo with Tristan from outside on the deck – there’s nothing like the sight of mom & dad to make a little one light up!
Oh those eyes! This one below just might be on display [life size!] in my studio. I’m a sucker for vintage fire trucks and adorable toddlers
It’s so sweet to see little boys and their dads – Darren, I love these shots of you two!
Above is one of the last family portraits we captured of the day – I think it may my absolute favorite! Classic & timeless. You two have started a beautiful family!! I know it was important to you both, that we capture Tristan’s personality and spirit – especially before turning the big 1 year. I hope these become pictures [captured moments] that you look reflect upon fondly.

As many know, I made a permanent move back to Southern California just before the holidays. Happily surrounded by friends, family & sunshine – I’ve settled into a charming guest house in the heart of Toluca Lake. Though I was devastated to give up my Pearl District studio, I was equally excited about the potential for portrait sessions in my new home! The light flowing into every room just screams of yumminess. SO, when Angel and his wife [old friends from high school] contacted me about photographing their two daughters – I thought to myself; ‘I know the perfect place!’
We started their portrait session right here in the bedroom of my home studio. Shhhhh – only a photographer would design her bedroom in the style of a photography set The backdrop offers a sweet, intimate and dreamy feel – perfect for two adorable, brown eyed girls! Hold on to your heart strings – these two brown eyed beauties are gonna melt your heart!
Ok, I HAD to show these – look at their little toes!! It’s only at these ages that toes are this cute!
Though Angel & Jaqueline opted for portraits that focused mainly on their two little girls, I’m so happy to have capture this picturs above. Look at how his little two year old beauty gazes at him so lovely. LOVE it.
After wrapping up here at my home studio, we headed to a near by church. [St. Charles Boorromeo] The colors & architectural details here offered the perfect compliment to the pictures we’ve already captured!
Angel & Jaqueline, it was a pleasure to see you both again. It was an honor to photograph your little girls. I know I’ve said it a thousand times – but they melt my heart!!!

As I gear up to launch the new Boudoir site, I’m having a blast testing out ideas! Though I have a new in-home LA studio [insert excitement here.. images to come soon!] I wanted to share some of my favorites from an outdoor styled boudoir shoot I hosted with a friend in Salem, Oregon. We had three uber gorgeous models, and a team of well known stylists who spent the day helping us test out locations, lighting, posing & wardrobe ideas. We watched our visions come to life and are truly thankful for everyones involvement!
Enjoy! ~ erica
